How Do I Turn On My Reading History?

My Reading History is a feature in the catalog that retains a list of the items you have borrowed.  Only you have access to this list, and you can manage it by deleting selected items or the entire list whenever you wish. You can opt out of this feature and opt in again as often as you like.

Any items you borrow after opting in will be recorded in your history. You can access this history anytime by logging into your record in the catalog and selecting "My Reading History." Only you will have access to your borrowing history.  Library staff cannot access this information. If you have any questions about this service, we will be glad to answer them.

To turn My Reading History on:

  1. Login to My Account.
  2. In your record, you will see three buttons displayed to the right of the box with your name and address. Select the rightmost button labeled "My Reading History."
  3. Select the "Opt in" button. 

How Do I Pay Fines Online?

The Pay Online button can be found by going to the catalog and clicking on the words "Login" at the top of the page or by clicking on "My Account" on the Library website. Once you enter your name, your 14 digit library card barcode number, and your PIN (Personal Identification Number), you will see the "Pay Online" button.

When you pay online, your transaction is subject to the Chester County Library System's Security/Privacy/Refund policy?

What forms of payment are accepted for online payments?
The Library accepts MasterCard and Visa cards.

Is a service fee charged when paying fines online?
No. The Chester County Library does not add an additional service charge when you pay fees and fines online.

Is there a minimum fine amount that can be paid online?
No, you may pay any fee and/or fine amount that you owe. When you click "Pay online" in your record, all fines are pre-selected. If you do not wish to pay all of the fees and/or fines, you can "uncheck" the fees and/or fines you do not wish to pay during any transaction and select "Recalculate" to pay only the selected charges. Each selected fee or fine must be paid in full; you cannot pay a partial amount on a selected fee or fine.

Why do the fees and/or fines I just paid still appear on "My Library Record" screen?
You must "refresh" the screen. When you do, it will accurately reflect your payment.

How do I get a receipt when I pay my fines online?
If you include an email address with the credit card information you submit, a receipt will be sent automatically to that email address. A payment receipt also displays online and may be printed.

How do I Place Holds?

Placing a hold in the catalog allows you to request that a copy of an item be sent to the library of your choice for pickup. There are two ways to request a hold online.

To place a hold:

  1. Search the catalog and find the record for the item you want.
  2. Select the "Place a Hold" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your name, your 14 digit library barcode and your PIN and select "Submit."
  4. Choose a pickup location from the dropdown menu. You may pick up a hold at any one of the eighteen public libraries in Chester County. Select "Submit."
  5. Select "Yes" in the dialogue box with the text "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?" Neither your computer nor your account information will be affected.
  6. From the Hold Verification screen, choose "Regular display" to return to the previous catalog record or "Start over" to continue searching. You will remain in your record and will not need to re-enter your personal information for any further holds.

Alternatively, you may first enter My Account and then search for the item(s) you want to "hold." After you find an item, select "place a hold" and then "Choose a pickup location."

You may also place a hold in person at your library, or by telephone by speaking with a library employee.

Notification

You will be notified when the material is ready for you. We recommend giving us your email address for the quickest notification. You have one week to pick up the material, unless otherwise indicated.

Materials which are not eligible for holds:

  • reference
  • long overdue
  • missing
  • in mending
  • in storage
  • in processing


Patrons who are unable to place holds:

  • those who already have 30 holds
  • those with long overdue items
  • those who are in Collection

If you are coming to the library the same day to pick up a hold, call the library ahead of time.

How Do I Renew Items?

There are three ways that you can renew your items:

  • Online through "My Account" (see instructions below)
  • Call any Chester County Library
  • In person at a Chester County library

Renewals are granted dependent upon:
a. material type
b. the presence of a request for the material by another patron (i.e. hold)

Most materials may be renewed twice providing a hold for the material has not been placed by another patron, with the exception of OverDrive titles which may only be renewed once.

You may renew items which:

  • do not have holds
  • have not already been renewed the maximum number of times allowed by the loan rules

Overdue materials may be renewed in person, by phone or online; however any fines incurred prior to the renewal will be added to your account.

To renew items online:
1. Select "My Account" on the Easttown Library website or the word "Login" at the top of any page of the catalog.
2. Enter your 14 digit library card barcode number, and your PIN (Personal Identification Number). For more information on creating a PIN, see How Do I Access My Account?
3. Select "Submit."
4. The items you have checked out are listed.
5. Click in the box in the RENEW column next to each item you wish to renew.
6. Select the "Renew Selected" button.
7. Check the STATUS column for the new due dates or other messages.
8. To renew all items, select the "Renew All" button, then check your list for the new due dates or other messages.
9. Select "Log out" when you are finished.

How do I access My Account?

Access My Account by clicking on "Login" at the top of any catalog page.

With My Account you are able to:

  • see the items you currently have checked out
  • renew items
  • see your fines
  • see your holds
  • cancel your holds
  • change the pickup location of your holds
  • place holds
  • see your interlibrary loan requests
  • view and manage My Reading History

To access My Account you will need:

  • your 14 digit Library barcode, and
  • a PIN (Personal Identification Number), which is a self-selected password consisting of letters and/or numbers. The PIN gives you secure access to My Account. We recommend you use a four digit PIN, but longer PINs may also be used.

If you do not have a PIN, type in your barcode. Leave the PIN field blank and click "Submit." The following screen will appear:

Enter your chosen PIN twice, which may not include numbers which repeat three times (e.g., 5777) nor numbers which repeat two digits (e.g.,1212).

Select "Submit."

Remember this number. You will need it every time you login into My Account. If you forget your PIN, contact your local library. Your PIN will be deleted and you will then choose a new PIN following the instructions above.
